Dexcom G7 is a compact continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor designed to provide real-time glucose readings throughout the day and night. It automatically measures glucose in interstitial fluid and sends data to a compatible smartphone or Dexcom receiver, showing the current reading, direction of change and glucose trends.
The sensor and transmitter are combined in one all-in-one device, so there is no separate transmitter to purchase or replace. After application, the sensor has a warm-up time of approximately 30 minutes. Dexcom G7 is factory calibrated, so routine fingerstick calibration is not required.
Each sensor can be worn for up to 10 days, followed by an additional 12-hour grace period that gives users more flexibility when replacing the device. The sensor is water resistant and can be worn during normal daily activities, exercise, showering and swimming within the manufacturer’s specified conditions.
New glucose readings are sent every 5 minutes. Customizable alerts can help notify users about high, low or rapidly falling glucose levels. When supported by the compatible Dexcom app, Dexcom Share and Follow features can also allow glucose information to be shared with family members or caregivers.
