The device creates a gentle vacuum at the puncture site, slightly lifting the skin and capillaries. As a result, the lancet barely touches nerve endings, while the vacuum helps draw a sufficient drop of blood for accurate glucose measurement.
Even when using modern Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems such as Dexcom, FreeStyle Libre, or Medtronic, users still need to perform occasional fingerstick tests with a glucose meter. This is required for calibration, verification of sensor readings, or confirmation of glucose levels during hypo- or hyperglycemia.
